History of Omega Watch Co
The History of a Successful Company Omega was founded by Louis Brandt at La Chaux – de – Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 as a assembly workshop. In 1879, after his death, his two sons Louis Paul and César started the in-house manufacturing so they started having total production control. One year later, Omega moved into a small factory that became a huge one when 12 months later they bought the entire building. In 1903, they both died leaving the company in 24 years old, Paul Emile Brandt’s hands. Because of the crisis that the Second World War left, he had to work really hard in order to face the economic difficulties. He merged Omega with Tissot calling the new company SSIH. The SSIH group continued to grow and multiply under his leadership and, by the seventies, it had become Switzerland’s number one producer of finished watches and number three in the world.
In 1985, the holding company was taken over by a group of private investors under Nicolas Hayek leadership. It was immediately renamed SMH (Société suisse de Microélectronique et d'Horlogerie). SMH had a rapid growth and success becoming today's top watch producer in the world. Named Swatch Group in 1998, it now includes Blancpain and Breguet.

Ulysse Nardin, born in 1823 in Le Locle, Switzerland, was an acomplished watchmaker having first been trained under his father, Leonard-Frederic Nardin and later perfected his skills with two master watchmakers, Frederic William Dubois and Louis JeanRichard-dit-Bressel.
Ulysse Nardin, the company, was founded in 1846 and remained under Ulysse's control until his passing in 1876, when his 21-year old son, Paul-David Nardin took over.
Since the founding of the company, Ulysse Nardin was known for their high-quality and high-accuracy craftsmanship, so much so that they became known worldwide for their Marine Chronometers, the most accurate mechanical clocks ever made, achieving a precision of around a tenth of a second per day.
In exhibitions held at various locations, such as Paris, London, Tokio or Buenos Aires, Ulysse Nardin received a total of:
14 Grands Prix (First Prizes)
the "Prize Medal" (1862 - London International Exhibition)
the "Progress Medal"
10 Gold Medals
2 Prix d'Honneur
2 Silver Medals
Until 1967, one second was defined by the rotation of the earth, and because of this, competitive chronometer watches were calibrated and certified in an astronomical observatory. The Observatoire Cantonal de Neuchâtel was the main Swiss observatory where such certifications were done, and in 1975, when the accuracy of mechanical timepieces became irrelevant with the advent of quartz watches, it released a publication regarding the performance of chronometers from 1846 to 1975: of the 4504 certificates awarded in this period, 4324 went to Ulysse Nardin.
In 1983 Ulysse Nardin was purchased by a group headed by Rolf W. Schnyder, its current president. Mr. Schnyder brought in Dr. Ludwig Oechslin, a scientist, inventor, historian and watch-maker extraordinaire with whom they set out to design and develop complicated timepieces that had never before existed. The first example of this was the Astrolabium, introduced in 1985, part of the Trilogy of Time along with the Planetarium Copernicus (1988) and the Tellurium Johannes Kepler (1992).
The Ulysse Nardin Astrolabium, entered into the Guinness Book of Records in 1989 as the most complicated wristwatch ever made with 21 complications, indicates the position of the sun, the moon and the stars in the sky at any given hour as seen from Earth, as well as sunrise and sunset, dawn and dusk, moonphases, moonrise and moonset, eclipses of sun and moon, the month and the day of the week.
Ever since it's birth, Ulysse Nardin has been at the forefront of outstanding developments in horological technique and from the hand of Ludwig Oechslin, Ulysse Nardin has created the most complicated watch in history, the Astrolabium, as well as a whole array of models which cover the extent of horological experience, such as minute repeaters with automatons, tourbillons, as well as the first perpetual calendar in history with bi-directional adjustment of all calendar displays. This collection also features the Freak, a dual escapement beauty with no hands.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF BENRUS WATCHES
Although the company went out of business in 1977, large numbers of their well made and dependable fine Benrus watches are available as vintage collectors’ items.
Way back in 1921 three brothers called Oscar, Ralph and Benjamin Lazrus founded the Benrus Watch Company. History doesn’t tell us why Benjamin was the brothers’ name that was chosen but the company name, Benrus, is a combination of the first syllable of his name and the second syllable of their family name. Benrus watches is sometimes mistaken for a Swiss watch making company because early in its history the American owned and operated company leased one floor of factory space from a Swiss owned watch making company that was located in La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland. Their reason for doing this was to help to circumvent the draconian regulations against the use of Swiss watch movements in foreign time pieces. The earliest models of Benrus watches featured precision movements made by the Schild Company, a well known and established Swiss watch maker. The first watch casings from the Benrus Watch Company are not marked with their brand name due to the Swiss regulations discussed previously.
In the decade of the 1930’s the innovative and creative styling of Benrus watches started to attract quite a following. Their chic designs featured such innovations as cushion watches and rectangular shaped watch casings. It was during this period of time that the Benrus Watch Company first became well known to the American consumer market. The company continued to be known as a leader in style and design in the watch making industry. During the 1940’s they made a range of fine time pieces that are avidly sought after by vintage watch collectors today. Perhaps the most famous of these was the manually winding calendar watch.
Other brands that sold under the Benrus name were

SOVEREIGN

BELFORTE
In the 1960's through the late 70's, Benrus made military issue watches used by the Army and Navy. These were issued to servicemen fighting in the Vietnam War.

Early in the 1960's Ben and Ralph Lazrus were in their 70's and ready for retirement. By the mid to late 70's Benrus Incorporated was a diversified manufacturer of a number of consumer products. Companies included: Benrus Watch Co. Watches, Wells, Inc. Jewelry, and Destino, Ltd. - Christian Dior Products. An attempt to consolidate all the various manufacturing enterprises under one roof proved to be a much more expensive move than anyone calculated, and a final blow to the company which subsequently filed bankrupt in 1977.

The company was then sold, and after passing through several more hands, came under the ownership of the Hampden Company, which also owned "Fantasy Diamonds", with factories in both the Virgin Islands and Chicago. An attempt was made to bring back the Benrus brand under Hampden/Fantasy, which was somewhat successful but short lived. Among others, a reissue of Vietnam service watches proved very popular.

History of Pierce Chronograph Wristwatches
Pierce made most of their movements themselves at their own factory. In many cases Pierce incorporated novel features into their movements, and their chronograph and automatic wristwatch movements are especially unusual and sought after by collectors. Pierce BEGAN manufacturing MOVEMENTS AFTER  the ebouche manufacturers refused to supply movements to Pierce. They had to start designing and manufacturing their own movements. Most Pierce collectors  focus on collecting wristwatches rather than pocket watches. Pierce made WWII wrist watches had app 10 different Pierce calibres and at least one chronograph movement, the Pierce calibre 134. All Pierce movements were manufactured between 1930 and 1955

The history of  Pierce company began in 1883. The brand was founded in Bienne, Switzerland. It is one of the centers of the Swiss watchmaking, where a lot of the most famous watch companies had been established. The founder of the elite  Pierce company chose the right place for the watch production, as Bienne had been the workplace of more than 1700 watchmakers for a long time.

Pierce 1883 watch company was founded by Leon Levy Freres and his brothers. As for every company founder, it was very important for them to gain love, to win recognition and to establish a reputation as a producers of premium quality watches. It should be mentioned, that actually the founders of the watch brand have managed not only to make a name for themselves, but also to obtain the recognition of many watch connoisseurs. But in the year of  Pierce foundation, the watch market was not so rich of various models as it is now. At that time, chronographs were not so popular, watches were not water resistant and the automatic movements were housed in the watch cases extremely seldom. Pierce company began to develop and release the wrist watches as well as pocket chronographs. For the watch production the brothers used only high quality materials. The best watchmakers, working in Pierce company, created small masterpieces, that won the hearts of many watch connoisseurs.

At the present time Pierce watches combine the old horological traditions with the innovative technologies. The refined watches, such as Arabesque, Observator, Commander, Air Command, Flightcalendar, Ocean Drive, are the striking examples of the high quality and the exclusive design. The round watch cases are produced from 316L stainless steel. Several models have the guilloche dials, that feature Arabic numerals, two hands and a small  second hand at “6:00”. The other models have the dark dials with three long hands and numerals 12, 3, 6 and 9, enclosed in the triangles. The third model is presented with the steel case and the toothed bezel. In this case, the designers have chosen the light-coloured dials, that feature two beautiful hands, a date aperture at “3:00” position ans a small second hand at “6:00” position. Pierce watch collection also includes stainless steel chronographs with the black dials, that feature the date aperture at “6:00” position and the chronograph counters at “3:00”, “6:00” and “9:00”. This original model also has the toothed steel bezel, giving the watch a wonderful image. The watch dials are protected by the sapphire crystals. The watches come with the leather straps ans steel buckles. All watches by  Pierce company are equipped with the in-house automatic movements. It's worth mentioning, that  Pierce is one of the first brands, that have developed the automatic movements for their watches.
