These master watchmakers were awarded various gold model at the world exhibition and international competitions, thus creating the foundation and reputation of watching making industry of Glashutte. In 1878, Moritz Grossmann founded the German School of Watchmaking, hence building groundwork for more skillful watchmakers in the region of Glashutte and transforming the region into a reputed symbol of watchmaking excellence.
In the beginning of World War II, the watch manufactories in Glasutte was still in the production of military watches for the Navy and Air Force. Later, in the last day of War World II, Glashutte was bombed from the sky and the factories were badly destroyed. The reminding unaffected factories merged and found the VEB Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe under the rule of East German state.

The coffin-style Tenor Dolly Jump Hour is one of the coolest designs featuring a robust Tenor-Dorly 1393 calibre. The TD1393 movement is more complicated than an average automatic direct read from the 1970's but the various designs available prove that it must have been pretty popular among watch producers. It was sold under different brands such as Tenor-Dorly, TD, Waltham, Technos, Sempertalis, Dynasty or even the top-shelf Universal Geneve. Gunmetal or blackchrome versions are uncommon and have been very likely custom modified.

BRIEF INFORMATION ON LEMARQUAND SPACEMAN RETRO WRISTWATCH

Andre LeMarquand is one of the biggest designers of the XXth century. His “Spaceman” is a cult item for all collectors. Designed as an astronaut helmet – a tribute to the first landing on the moon – it was shown to the public in 1972 at the famous Basel Fair by the Catena watch company. It was a hit almost like the Swatch 10 years later and as a unisex watch it was worn in the colorful 1970’s by men and women. The watch was so popular that even more known companies ordered them with their logo on the dial (Fortis, Jules Jurgensen, Zeno). Andre LeMarquand is until today creating his watches is his small family factory in Bulle, Switzerland and his shops are located in the USA, Arab Emirates and Russia. Read more about LeMarquand on the company website.

The Spaceman not only contains the highest grade 17j. or selfwinding 25j. AS movements but also the materials are very high quality. The case is made of durable light fibreglass which was used in the 1960/70’s almost exclusively in the spaceindustry. The strap is made of semi-leather durable material called Corfam® by Dupont, which was used on astronaut spacesuits. It’s almost like leather but is very strong yet remains elastic and comfortable. A BRIEF HISTORY OF VACHERON CONSTATIN WACHES
In 1755 Jean- Marc Vacheron gives birth, in Geneva Switzerland, to Vacheron Constantin . Apart from being a young businessman as a watch manufacturer, he was well known as a talented craftsman. In 1770 world enjoys the first complication created by his company and in 1779 he introduces the first engine-turned dials.
In 1785 Vacheron's son, Abrahan Vacheron, becomes the head of the family business making the company face the French Revolution. In 1810 it was his Vacheron's grandson who takes over the company being the first in exporting their watches to France and Italy.
By this moment, to be able to travel overseas and selling the company's products they realize that a partner is necessary to handle this business. So, in 1819 Francois Constantin associates with vacheron continues the company under the name of "Vacheron & Constantin".
"Do better if possible and that is always possible", this is the company's motto since Constantin becomes part of this business.. As the result of this fusion, the company is able to open new watches markets. Francois Constantin starts travelling around the world introducing the watches. The main market is North America.
In 1839 Georges-Auguste Leschot appears on scene hired by Vacheron and Constantin to supervise the manufacturing operations. Leschot is the first person who standardizes movements into calibres and with his inventions makes the company to succeed in the watchmaking industry.
In 1844 The Art Society of Geneva distinguishes his labour by awarding him with a gold medal. It is for the pantographic device that makes possible to generate specific watch parts. This set the company into a high level.
Unfortunately, after Constantin's death (1854), and Vacheron's death (1863), the company suffers some changes.
In 1862 Vacheron Constantin joins the Association for Research into non-magnetic materials. In 1885, the company introduces the first nonmagnetic timepiece which has a complete lever assortment made of materials able to withstand magnetic fields. Its construction consists of a balance wheel, balance spring and lever shaft that are made of palladium, the lever arms - in bronze and the escape wheel is in gold
The name of this company suffers some changes as the one in 1877 when the company's name become into "Vacheron & Constantin, Fabricants, Geneve" and three years later Vacheron & Constantin introduces its symbol, the Maltese cross ( based on the component of a barrel, it has a cross-shape that limits the tension within the main spring) ,until these days.
Ten years later, Vacheron & Constantin is awarded by a gold medal due to the improvements and succees as a stock company . It is held in Geneva at the Swiss National Exhibition.
Nowadays we can enjoy the the Boutique of Vacheron & Constantin on Quai de l'Ile. The first of these boutiques was opened in 1906.
In 1936 due to the Great Deperession Vacheron & Constantin is headed by Charles Constantin becaming Vacheron & Constantin President.
Once again Vacheron & Constantin's name suffers a change. The "&" is dropped in 1970.
On 1987 Vacheron constantin changes hands, the slaes improve and nowadays Nacjeron Constantin has a production of 20.000 timepieces per year. In 1996 Richemont Group buys

    A History of Rolex Watches

Hans Wilsdorf founded the company we now know as Rolex in 1905. Born in Kulmbach, Germany in 1881, the company, Wilsdorf & Davies, was based in London. By 1908 it had become one of the leading watch companies in the UK. It was in this year that he coined the name Rolex.
Official Chronometer Certification was awarded to Rolex in 1910 from the "Bureau Officiel" in Switzerland, the first time this had ever been given to a wristwatch. This was to be the first of many accolades awarded to the watch, including the Class A Precision from the Kew Observatory in 1914.
In 1926 the Rolex Oyster was released. It was the first wristwatch to be considered waterproof, proven a year later when the watch was worn by the swimmer Mercedes Gleitze in his successful bid to cross the English Channel. This was beneficial to Wilsdorf whom had sponsored the event and gained considerable exposure for his new Oyster Watch. Wilsdorf recognized the importance of advertising and marketing his creation in order to gain publicity and prestige. 1931 saw the creation of the Perpetual Rotor, a mechanism now seen as the basis for self-winding movements. In the following years Rolex released the first Oyster Perpetual Lady-date (1954) the GMT Master with dual time zone function (1955) and the first Day-Date (1956).
Andre Heiniger took over the company following the death of Hans Wildorf on 06 July 1960. Rolex continued to invent and innovate in terms of technical skill and style throughout the 2nd half of the century. The Sea-dweller (1967) was certified as reaching depths of up to 1,220 meters making it the choice for Professional Divers - a point that was quickly adopted in advertising the model. The Explorer II (1978) and Cosmograph Daytona (1988) were also released to international waiting lists securing Rolex as one of the worlds most prestigious watch brands.
