THE ORIGIN OF OLMA WATCHES

Fleurier, a small peaceful town in Jura valley bordering on France and situated in the west of Switzerland - kingdom of watches, has been economic lifelines of Swiss peasants in winter since the 18th century due to geography, climate, politics, etc. and is a productive place for watch making in the world and home to a great many of world-famous watch brands and watch-making masters.

In 1906, Numa Jeannin established a watch making factory, and registered the brand of OLMA in Switzerland.

THE HISTORY
In 1836, Paul Jeannin Bourquin was born in an ordinary peasant’s family in Fleurier. In order to share the living burden on his family, he was referred to a watch shop in Geneva for apprenticeship of watch repairing in 1850 when he was only 14. Thanks to his intelligence and hardworking, he mastered all the repair skills after 4 years and developed a strong interest in watch-making. The apprenticeship was very tough

In 1854, Paul Jeannin Bourquin began to work in the watch-making workshop. During this period, he concentrated himself on the techniques for watch part making and every procedure for watch assembly. His talent for watch-making was brought to full play and soon he became an excellent watchmaker. Even those most captious customers were praiseful for the watches made by him. After 3 years’ effort, Paul Jeannin Bourquin had enjoyed high reputation for watch-making in Switzerland.

In 1860, Paul Jeannin Bourquin finally completed the first watch designed and made by him, and rejoiced at the watch, he named it after Numa Jeannin - the name of his son. Also, he registered it as trade name in Switzerland. A legendary OLMA watch brand was thus born.
