BRIEF HISTORY OF ORIS WATCHES

Oris was founded in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian at Hölstein, Switzerland. Oris produced no-nonsense time pieces which were both high quality and affordable. With the advent of quartz, as with many other Swiss watch manufacturers, Oris struggled to find its place in the watch market.

However, Oris continued to focus on the manufacturing of mechanical watches. Oris has been able to hold its own creating watches with unique mechanical features that distinguish from those with electronics and quartz. Since the mid-eighties, Oris has progressively launched more mechanical watches with features such as analogue date pointers, automatic movement, mechanical chronographs, and analogue world time display. Interestingly, despite the turbulent changes the watch industry experienced, Oris has found itself doing what it always has, producing great value quality mechanical watches.

In 2004, Oris celebrated 100 years of existence and is going stronger than ever. Oris boasts many names wearing an Oris such as Sean Penn, Harrison Ford, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicolas Cage, and Meg Ryan. Oris is also a key sponsor of the BMW Williams Formula 1 team, helping them to grow their brand awareness, and expand internationally.

The 2008 Oris range includes the TT3, Divers, Artelier, BC3, BC4, Big Crown, Miles, Chronoris, Classic and Flight Timer collections.

BRIEF HISTORY OF MILUS WRISTWATCH

Under the name of Milus International SA, the Milus watch brand is entering a new era. Boosted by the arrival of the Peace-Mark group (new investors with headquarters in Hong Kong), it plans to gain a firm foothold in the luxury segment. CEO Jan Edöcs and his team are currently working, at the firm's head office in Biel, on the launch of collections with an innovative design. They will take their first steps on the international stage next spring at the Basle International Watchmaking and Jewellery Exhibition. The Milus brand remains committed to purity of shape and meticulous finishing, following the example of Paul Junod, designer of the third generation, who has remained loyal to the company. The price of the new gold and steel lines will be in a range not exceeding 10,000 francs. Special models, in platinum or set with diamonds, will be available at prices varying between 100,000 and 250,000 francs. Heirs to a history of Milus Paul Junod SA watches that dates back some 80 years, the new watch lines will be clearly identifiable as Milus models. Combining contemporary elegance with smooth, rounded profiles, these timepieces are aimed at elegant women who find an element of creative surprise to their taste. Jan Edöcs, a 31-year-old who started his career with the Swatch Group, is aiming to achieve durable growth for the new company. Speaking of this new challenge, he said: "We are proud of our new lines and are convinced that we are on the threshold of a new era. With the heritage of the Milus brand, we can now really make our mark."

BRIEF HISTORY OF AVIA WATCHES

 

Avia was very successful with their lines of military watches during 1940 - 1960, were made for British Army.

In 1969 the owner of the Avia watch factory, an industrialist from Neuchâtel, who aready possessed the brands "Helvetia" and "Fleurier Watch" acquired Silvana S.A.. This cooperation resulted in the firm Avia & Silvana S.A., which soon thereafter was integrated into the holding company of the Societe des Garde-Temps S.A. SGT, a conglomerate, which, besides owning various prestigious watch brands, ran subsidiaries in Switzerland and abroad and wrote turnovers of over 100 million Swiss Francs per year.

HISTORY OF TECHNOS WATCHES

In the Swiss watch industry, the year of 1850 is shown with pride and tradition. It marks the appearance of TECHNOS, a mark trade that would become famous in the whole world.

In the seventies, the Swiss watch industry was seriously affected by the new quartz technology, and needed help from the Swiss banks. A nominated interventor drastically reformulated a significant group of watch industries and launched with success a plastic disposable watch, under whose shelter, nowadays, are integrated most of the well-known swiss watch marks. TECHNOS, however, succeeded in striding a different venture.

The company decided to invest in material research and new technologies, as well as in the constant renovation of its lines of watches. At present are manufactures more than 600 models, establishing tendencies when the matter is design and industrial inovation.
