THE BRIEF HISTORY OF MOVADO WATCHES

Movado, a company whose name means "always in motion" in Esperanto, began its life in 1881 in a small workshop in La Chaux-de-faunds, Switzerland. Founded by talented watchmaker Achille Ditisheim and his team of six employees, all watches were manufactured and assembled by hand.

By 1899, their hard work and determination had paid off. They were awarded six first-class Official Rating Certificates in their class, and in the following year, they were awarded the Silver Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.

By 1905, the company had settled on its now famous name, Movado, and began in earnest its now famous pursuit of excellence in design and function. They won the 1910 Grand Prix Exhibitions in Paris, Rome, Brussels and Rio de Janeiro for their introduction of 8 ligne wristwatch movements. The introduction of the Polyplan watch in 1912 took the watch community by storm, and these watches are highly sought after at auction today.

In 1947, American designer Nathan George Horwitt created the first Museum Watch. It featured an uncluttered dial, with a simple gold dot marker at the 12:00 position. He likened the design to that of a sun-dial, like recognizing the sun at its zenith at high noon.

The black Museum Watch was already well known, and the company expanded the line to include dozens of variants. There were at least 24 different watches being sold under the name Movado Museum Watch in 1986, and some of these were a far cry from the gaunt simplicity of Horwitt's original design. One watch even had numbers on the dial, and it was ringed with diamonds. The name "Museum Watch" had a certain cachet that the company's advertising exploited as well as it could. The Museum of Modern Art, which displayed the original Horwitt watch, even put up a disclaimer in 1984, noting that "the Movado watch is not a Museum of Art watch, nor is there any connection between the Museum of Modern Art and the Movado Watch Corporation." Sol Flick, a lawyer for North American Watch countered that the "museum" in "Museum Watch" might refer to any museum. "It could be the Museum of Natural History," he said in a November 1986 Consumer Reports article.

Movado later teamed up with designers and artists such as Andy Warhol to create one-of-a-kind limited edition watches, which reside in museums, galleries, and collections today.

Movado is returning to its roots today. It has re-introduced the KingMatic series, which was originally introduced in the 1950's, and featured the first automatic movement and sweeping second hand, both driven from a central rotor. Today, the KingMatic features an all stainless steel case, stainless steel or leather bracelet, sapphire crystal, automatic movement, and is water resistant to 50 meters.

BRIEF INFORMATION ON FREDERIQUE CONSTANT WATCHES

Frederique Constant is an independent family owned watch manufacturer based in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. Alleta and Peter Stas decided to found their own watch production at the end of 1980s. Named after Aletta's great grandmother Frederique Schreiner and Peter's great grandfather Constant Stas. This company was created to compete in a segment of the watch market that in no way lacks brand.

Since it is no longer enough to just purchase automatic movement, Frederique Constant decided to elevated itself by simple though exciting idea, produced it's own automatic movement, the base plate and the dial were opened up in the region of the movement 's balance and the escapement so that one would be able to observe the balance's excited swinging on the front of the watch. The obvious association with a quickly beating heart was also reflected in the name of the collection, HEART BEAT.

After the success of the first series of Double Heart Beat ladies watches, introduced in 2006, Geneva-based Watch Manufacturer Frederique Constant presents a new version of this passionately feminine wrist watch. A new creative timepiece designed by ladies, for ladies: the “LOve Heart Beat” models.

After the worldwide recognized Double Heart Beat Dial aperture, which became an iconic product within the Frederique Constant collection of Ladies’ watches, the new “LOve Heart Beat” model features a very special LOve aperture in the dial, set with diamonds and a liberally opened O-shape to let us discover the escapement of a finely decorated automatic movement, also visible through the back of the case thanks to the sapphire crystal.

The case shape is gently rounded with a diameter of 34mm and the fine ‘godron’ decoration all around the bezel gives the watch timeless elegance. The dial, decorated with a subtle heart-shaped guilloche finishing, features a charming LOve opening at 12 o'clock, set with sparkling diamonds, revealing the beating of the heart of the watch.

The “LOve Heart Beat” watches are presented in different trendy colors: in rose gold plated with either a sweet vanilla or a gourmet chocolate finishing, and in steel with a romantic opaline and mother of pearl dial finishing, set with shiny diamonds varying in number according to the different versions, which will perfectly blend with the current fashion trends…

Frederique Constant SA is a manufacture of luxury wrist watches based in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. The company was established in its current form in 1988 by Aletta Bax and Peter Stas and is involved in all the stages of watch production, from initial design to final assembly. The company produced and sold over 80,000 watches in 2007.

Frederique Constant operates a manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates measuring 3200 square meters, divided over four floors, in the sectors of movement component production, calibre assembly, watch assembly, and extensive quality control. Numerically-controlled machines of the latest generation are located in a large atelier in the basement, where all component manufacturing is concentrated. Calibre and watch assembly, as well as state-of-the-art quality control is primarily organized on the first floor.

The Heart Beat Manufacture won the 'Watch of the Year' Award in category up to € 3.000,- of Horloges Magazine in 2005.

Frederique Constant participated in the Only Watch activity to fund important medical research helping children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

In February 2007, Frederique Constant began production of the Silicum escapement wheel (first introduced to the industry by Patek Philippe in 2005.) Frederique Constant introduced the Heart Beat Calibre FC 935 Silicium in October 2007. It implements new high tech materials to create better, more precise and more reliable mechanical watches.

In April 2008, Frederique Constant established itself as one of Switzerland’s leading watch brands with the creation of a tourbillon with a silicium escape-wheel and, for the first time, an amplitude of over 300 degrees between its vertical and horizontal positions. Coupled with the rapid oscillation, this gives the watch an unusually high level of precision, while the silicium guarantees optimum protection.

Frederique Constant is represented in Asia with brand ambassador Shu Qi. Frederique Constant and Paint-a-Smile Foundation transformed the murals on the walls of the cardiology department at the Beijing Children's Hospital in 2009

HISTORY OF SEIKO WATCH

In 1924, the first watch under the name Seiko was produced. Seiko also has the honour of producing the first quartz watch in the world under the name Astron. Thus by this fact only, one can get a basic idea of the rank of Seiko watches in the world of wristwatches. When this watch was first introduced, its cost was more than that of a medium sized car. However, this watch was a breakthrough in technology and set a new standard, which is being followed to this day
.

Seiko brand watches were originally produced by two different Seiko Corp. subsidiaries. One was Daini Seikosha Co, Ltd (Kameido,Koto-ku, Tokyo) and the other was Suwa Seikosha Co (Suwa-shi, Nagano). Two different companies produced one brand in order to improve technology through severe competition and to hedge the risk. Splendid watches were produced at both companies because of this tough competitionand this system proved efficient at hedging the risk.. If either company experienced production problems the other company could compensate by increasing production. Eventually Daini Seikosha Co, Ltd. changed it its company name to Seiko Instruments Inc. and Suwa Seikosha Co, to Seiko Epson Corporation.

In 1985 Seiko and orient watches set up a joint factory, which produces millions of watches each year. Seiko watches are known for their reliability and accuracy in time keeping, which is why their watches have been used for official time keeping in major sports events and the Olympic Games, which is also an honourable rank for the company.

The company produces different lines of watches of which, the most famous are Seiko 5, Grand Seiko, King Seiko and Credor. Collectors, due to their high esteem and unique features, treasure these watches as prized possessions. Seiko mechanical watches are especially considered as prized possession by collectors. When it comes to Seiko classic watches, the older a watch, the more precious it is.

Prior to 1960 most people believed Swiss watches were the highest quality and Japanese watches were inferior. Seiko believed they were capable of producing watches of the same quality as the Swiss. In fact, they had already made two high-quality examples, Crown and Chronos . The Grand Seiko and King Seiko is the result of their beliefs. Who made it? Daini Seikosha and Suwa began discussions under the suggestion of their parent company, Seiko. It was decided that Suwa would produce the first Grand Seiko (GS) and King Seiko (KS) by Daini. The birth of GS and KS was followed by the success of the Tokyo Olympics and Seiko's victory at the astronomical observatory Concours.

Seiko wristwatches range from 50$ to 100,000$, which is certainly a price tag for luxury and high esteem. The Seiko kinetic watches being produced these days take the major portion of their sales in the modern era as they combine the self-energising feature of automatic watches with the high accuracy of quartz in time keeping.

HISTORY OF MARC JACOB THE DESIGNER

Marc Jacobs was born in New York City on April 9, 1963. After graduating from the High School of Art and Design in 1981 he entered Parson's School of Design. As a design student at Parson's, Jacobs was the recipient of some of the schools highest honors. He was awarded the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award, and the Design Student of the Year Award all in 1984. While still at Parson's Jacobs also designed and sold his first collection of hand-knitsweaters. The collection was designed for Ruben Thomas, Inc., which is still in tact today. In 1986, backed by Kashiyama USA, Inc., Jacobs designed his first collection bearing the Marc Jacobs label. The following year, Jacobs received the distinct honor of being the youngest designer ever to be awarded the fashion industry's highest tribute: The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. In 1989 Jacobs and Duffy joined Perry Ellis. Duffy was named President and Jacobs was named Vice-President of Women's Design. While at Perry Ellis, Jacobs oversaw the design of various women's licensees as well as creting the designer collection. In 1992, the CFDA once again bestowed Jacobs with a distinct honor: the Women's Designer of the Year Award. In the fall of 1993, Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. launched their own licensing and design company: Marc Jacobs International Company, LP.

n today’s society it is becoming increasingly important to look your best. The impression that you leave with others is more critical than ever. Many times, it can be the difference between getting the date or being ignored. It can be the difference between making the sale and being shown the door.

Many different parts of our wardrobe affect the way we look and affect our confidence as well. If we have the right level of confidence, the world is our plaything. We have everything we need to go out there and succeed. Wardrobe is a big part of this package and having a good watch is a big part of the wardrobe. Marc Jacobs watches tend to have this effect on people. When you’re wearing Marc Jacobs watches, you’re on top of the world. You look good and you feel good.

Wearing the proper watch can send out a message that you know what you’re doing. If you wear the right watch, it can send a message that you are up on fashion and you’re a knowledgeable person. It will immediately help you identify with other fashion-conscious people in your area. This one thing alone can help you form bonds with complete strangers. They’ll know you before they ever know you. In the business and personal world, this can be a huge advantage.

Another great aspect of Marc Jacobs watches is their affordability. They’re not ridiculously priced like many other designer watches. While they aren’t cheap, they are affordable compared to others. While they have a relatively low price tag, you’re getting one amazing watch when you buy one. They are made with quality and durability. Watches like this allow you to feel like a movie star without paying the movie star price. In today’s economy, we need every break that we can get.

History of Omega Watch Co

The History of a Successful Company Omega was founded by Louis Brandt at La Chaux – de – Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 as a assembly workshop. In 1879, after his death, his two sons Louis Paul and César started the in-house manufacturing so they started having total production control. One year later, Omega moved into a small factory that became a huge one when 12 months later they bought the entire building. In 1903, they both died leaving the company in 24 years old, Paul Emile Brandt’s hands. Because of the crisis that the Second World War left, he had to work really hard in order to face the economic difficulties. He merged Omega with Tissot calling the new company SSIH. The SSIH group continued to grow and multiply under his leadership and, by the seventies, it had become Switzerland’s number one producer of finished watches and number three in the world.

In 1985, the holding company was taken over by a group of private investors under Nicolas Hayek leadership. It was immediately renamed SMH (Société suisse de Microélectronique et d'Horlogerie). SMH had a rapid growth and success becoming today's top watch producer in the world. Named Swatch Group in 1998, it now includes Blancpain and Breguet.

About This Omega Megaquartz

All Omega colletors knew, the Megaquartz 32 KHz range was the very first quartz movement produced by Omega themselves in Switzerland.

This watch is absolutely stunning! The 1973 serial number shows it is one of the earliest examples of the Omega Megaquartz watches. The original cost was £195 when introduced in 1970's, the equivalent of well over £1000 in today's money.

The case is large and heavy and the whole adds up to a really chunky watch - finished in a combination of gloss and brushed satin gold plate.

The working condition is stunning and all the functions work perfectly and the watch perfoms well and a new battery was put in.

I have never worn this watch, which in truth is why I'm selling it. I just don't want to do any damage to what in reality is a real collector's or museum piece and I prefer to wear the watches that I own.

Again I would stress that the working condition of this watch is remarkable, I doubt whether it would be possible to find another like this for sale, so if you're a collector or just after something very different to wear with a retro look, that's just like new although it's 35 years old, this is the one for you!
