BRIEF HISTORY OF HMT WRISTWATCH

HMT Watches were produced by Indian Giant Hindustan Machine Tool and re-named the watch as HMT. HMT was among the top 10 manufacturers of wrist watches in the world, based on the number of watches produced.

The new HMT watches used the movement supplied by Japan Citizen. The HMT are scattered all over the world, especially in South Asia especially India with Sanjay and Vijay model, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Far East, Asia Pacific and Africa. This watch was specially made for Indian Military.

  1. HMT, among the top 10 manufacturers of wrist watches in the world? How can? Most of the HMT military models and other mechanical models use the Citizen movement!

  2. Dear thetick-thetick, thank you very much for the way you posted you comments. I did search the history of this watch. The HMT was produced by Swiss Company, Mademoiselle Oerlikon of Switzerland and was top ten watch maker prior 1940's. In 1962, this brand was bought over by Indian Goverment and starting to use other movements including Citizen and renamed the their models based on Indian Gods and Indian Icons.   3. Top ten in number of watches produced not the top ten of quality of the watch. This watch was so popular in India and Middle East, bought for the army. Just imagine the population of Indian continent and the number of watches was sold to those people. That's why Indian Govt bought this brand in 1962.
