BRIEF HISTORY OF ETERNA WATCHES

Having been pioneers in the field of watch making the Eterna company has a tradition in the field dating back to 1856. The Eterna Watches made their first break through by creating the ball bearing mounted rotor for self winding movements which also has five tiny spheres which symbolize the eternal brand. It also boasts of having undisputed standards in making automatic wristwatches. Eterna watches hold records for creating many worlds first such as the very first alarm wrist watch, the smallest self winding movement with a gold rotor, the thinnest quartz wrist watch of all times with a mere width of 0.98 mm, the smallest quartz movements for ladies wristwatches and so on. Due to these achievements and accomplishments the name Eterna has been transformed into a genuine legend through decades.

Eterna watch company was started by a doctor, Dr. Joseph Girard and a school teacher Urs Schild on the seventh of November, 1856 in Jura, Switzerland. Later on discouraged by the stiff competition and bleak prospects Joseph Girard quit in 1866. The Eternal watch collection boasts of a collection which has set up a revolutionary milestone in the history of watch making. It consists of the Eternal perfection series of the 1948, the Eternal elegance series of the 1935, along with the Grand Eternal challenge series the Kontiki and the Eternal Platinum series. The basic features of the 1948 models were the introduction of the chronometer, date, alarm and the moon phase chronograph. The Kontiki collection includes chronometer with a patented gasket system with water resistance down to a depth of 200 mts, along with GMT features and robust chronograph which accurately functions even under extreme stress.
